Although we are only traceable on sound, there are two levels of calibration, our standard calibration offers one frequency at 3 sound levels, whilst our premier calibration (based on BS EN 61672-3) cover 10 frequency levels, A and C weighting, 3 sound levels (94dB, 104dB and 114dB) and graphical frequency response. Included in our sound calibration capabilities are microphones, dose meters and acoustic calibrators.
We are able to calibrate 1/4, 1/2 and 1 inch microphones and preamps over the frequency range of 250Hz to 100kHz both array and general purpose microphones. We also carry out a diaphragm inspection and can supply replacement microphones if needed.
Regular calibration of sound and noise equipment is essential to maintain its accuracy and ensure equipment still performs to recognised industry standards.
Sound level meters essentially measure the sound pressure in relation to a reference standard and this then given as the decibel (dB) reading. These decibel rating is an important measurement, particularly when measuring both noise pollution at airports and the sound level at heavy construction sites and manufacturing environments. Measurement ranges in most meters are determined by the frequency range of human hearing, which is 20Hz to 20kHz.
